Meet Our Design and Architecture Professionals

Optometric Architects’ team brings decades of experience to optometrists and ophthalmologists nationwide and in Canada. Led by Principal Architect Robert J. Stensland, our team of professionals are dedicated in designing and creating highly functioning office spaces and will be there for you every step of the design process.

Robert J. Stensland, AIA

Principal Architect

Robert J. Stensland, AIA has 30+ years of Architectural and Design experience and is NCARB certified. He holds architectural licenses in over 35 states as well as multiple Canadian provinces. Robert graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture in 1987 and received his Master's degree from Iowa State University in Architecture in 1993. He is the owner and Principal Architect for both Optometric Architects and Modern Design Architects.

Kevin McConnell, AIAS

Design Principal

Kevin McConnell has been working at Optometric Architects since 2007. He has 20+ years of Architectural, Design and Project Management experience and is NCARB certified. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture in 2000 after serving in the United States Navy from 1987-1993.

Daniel Halbach

Lead Designer / Project Coordinator

Daniel Halbach started working at Optometric Architects in 2008. He has 20+ years of Architectural Drafting and Construction Administration experience. Daniel graduated from Hawkeye Community College in 2002 with an Associates degree in Architectural & Construction Technology.

Larry Funston

Consultant - Oadbe Designers Inc.

Larry E. Funston has been a consultant for Optometric Architects for 15+ years. He's worked in Commercial Retail Design and Optometric/Opthalmology Facility Design for over 40 years and received his degree in Interior Design from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.

Jim Trunnell, AIA

Architect

Jim Trunnell, AIA has been working at Optometric Architects since 2018 and is NCARB Certified. He has 20+ years of Architectural and Design experience and is licensed in 6 states. Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Iowa State University in 2001.

Ashleigh Durant

Interior Designer

Ashleigh Durant has been working at Optometric Architects since 2016. She has 8+ years of Interior Design and Architectural Drafting experience and graduated from Hawkeye Community College in 2010 with an Associates degree in Applied Arts & Interior Design.

Daniel Stensland

Marketing Coordinator

Daniel Stensland has worked at Optometric Architects since 2018. He has 3 years of Marketing and Graphic Design experience and graduated in 2018 from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies.

Brent Miller

Project Manager

Brent Miller has been working at Optometric Architects since 2013. He has over 20 years of Construction experience and 7 years of Project Management experience. Brent graduated from Hawkeye Community College with an Associate's degree in Architectural & Construction Technology. He has his 30-hour OSHA Outreach certification on Construction Safety, is a member of the American Builders Association in Project Management and is also a SWPPP Inspector.
